Celebrating 100th Day!

The kids ran into a big surprise when they came to the classroom this morning.  Our door was completely covered! I think this set up their excitement for the rest of the day. :)  We spent the day participating in various 100th day activities.  Students completed a mystery number (100) page.  They also weighed, counted (by 1s, 10s, and 5s), and measured their collections--just to name a few of the activities. Kids also had their picture taken with the 100th day banner.  We were super busy today and were pretty tired.  That being said, it was a fun-filled day that the kids enjoyed.

Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Monday we learned a lot about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  In the morning, our buddy class (3L--Mrs. Lureman's class) came in to create an art project.  We talked about what Dr. King did for people and how he was a hero.  Students also had first hand experience with how it feels to be treated unfairly.  For the majority of the day, I only gave the girls in the class a treat.  One of the boys caught on and asked, "Why are you giving only the girls a treat?"  We had a discussion about it and how it made us feel. Later, we wrote about what we would want to change about the world. The lessons went very well! The kids were very engaged and had a lot to say during the discussions.
